The first nurse-owned and nurse-led clinic opens in Auckland. Welcome to the AH+ family!

Family Health Matters is a brand new clinic in Glen Innes, the first nurse-owned and nurse-led clinic in Auckland and one of the pioneers for nurse-owned clinics in New Zealand. Located at 2/137 West Tamaki Road, Glen Innes, we are very pleased to welcome them to the AH+ family.

Co-owners Michal Noonan (a Nurse Practitioner) and Celeste Gillmer (team leader and nurse educator primary health care at Waitemata DHB) have created a space that they intend to be a hub to help foster a sense of community, where people can come in for a cup of tea and a chat and a place where people come for health care. GP's have been traditional owners of primary healthcare clinics so it is great to see nurses also wanting to lead the provision of care for our many under-served communities. The nursing role in primary care has been evolving over time and is complementary to the care provided by GP's within the wider healthcare team context. The ability for an appropriately qualified and competent healthcare practitioner ensures that families and communities receive the right care, at the right time.

Above: Family Health Matters Opening Evening: The Nursing Directors of four Primary Health Organisations (PHOs) attended the opening of Family Health Matters in support of the first Nurse Owned practice in the Metro-Auckland area. This is significant as it symbolises the evolution of nursing collaboration in primary healthcare. The Nursing Directors are supportive of the development of nursing, regardless of the PHO membership.
